Our story

About Ebb Deck: named for the man who measured forgetting

1885 · BERLIN Hermann Ebbinghaus The first scientist to measure how fast the mind forgets, and how the right review schedule fights back.

In 1885 the German psychologist Hermann Ebbinghaus spent months memorizing lists of nonsense syllables and testing himself on how many he still knew after minutes, hours and days. The result was the forgetting curve: we lose most of what we learn within days, fastest at the start. He also found the fix. Each review at the right moment restores the memory, and the next decline is slower.

Ebb Deck is built on that curve. It is a USMLE Step 1 question bank where every question has its own review schedule. An SM-2 spaced-repetition engine brings each one back just before you would forget it, and how sure you were decides how soon. Questions you know drift weeks into the future; shaky ones return tomorrow.

We pointed that science at the exam where it matters most. Every feature, from the scheduler to the weak-spot drills to the exam countdown, is there to help you walk into Step 1 with knowledge that is still there on the day. It runs as a web app for long sessions at your desk and as an iPhone app that works offline, with one account and one purchase for both.
